Paintings
What medium are your original paintings?
I work mainly in oil based paints usually on canvases, cradled boards or paper. I Use foraged pigments in my work, just some colours will be made from the landscape. For example I use chalk for the cliffs at Flamborough or ground charcoal, the original chalk white and lamp black pigments. Any pigments I use are colour fast and archival, made as they were historically. Details will be listed alongside each piece.
Are your paintings framed?
It varies. Most work on canvas is sold unframed; many people prefer this more modern look. If you like the look of a frame you can choose when you have the painting with you – it’s easier to decide that way!
Paintings on cradled wood are sometimes left unframed as it has the same appearance as a canvas or have a simple tray frame. Details will be with each work. Please contact me if you would like further photographs of the framing or have any further questions – framing can be an art in itself!
Will my painting be ready to hang?
Yes, all paintings will come with picture wire already fixed and ready to hang. You just need to decide where!
Can I purchase your work in instalments?
Yes, that can be arranged. For any work over £400 you can pay in instalments by contacting me or use the PayPal instalment link. Please send me a message and we can work out an arrangement that suits you. As soon as the final payment is made, your work will be shipped to you. This is not a credit scheme, but an arrangement on trust, at no extra cost to you. Usual shipping costs and return policy will apply.
My favourite painting has sold – how can I be sure to know about new work?
Some pieces sell very quickly. Make sure you join my mailing list to find out about new work before it is added to the Shop. But, as I try not to bombard you with emails, you can also follow studio progress on Instagram or Facebook to see work coming up.
How will my painting be wrapped?
It depends on size, but paintings will be carefully packed using corner protection, bubble wrap and cardboard. Each one is unique so I take care that is well protected to arrive in perfect condition. For further details about delivery please see the Shipping details.
Do you do special commissions?
I do work to commissions based on an area. This means me visiting the area to sketch and take in the atmosphere at the time of year or weather conditions you would choose so that the painting has the atmosphere you are looking for. This obviously means it needs to be reasonably local... in the north of England. Obviously the work is in my style, I show you the sketches made, we discuss which you choose and then I send you updates of the painting in progress.
Commissions are charged by size, there is an initial non-returnable deposit of 25% which covers my time and costs travelling and sketching. Once the sketches have been agreed on and the final painting started I take a further 25%, the next 25% is taken during the painting process after I have shown you photos of the painting and we have agreed any changes and the final 25% is paid just before delivery. Having made the decision to commission a painting and kept you in touch with its developments hopefully there will be no issues, if you decide not to proceed at any point all money will be refunded apart from the initial 25%.
